The Mobile Web

The mobile web seems to be mostly for cell phones, but there are other devices that can benefit from the mobile view. The PSP and the Nintendo Dsi can both use wifi and can brows the web . The PSP's browser seems to handle the web ok and it has Flash so animations and icons work well. The Dsi's browser is more basic and dose not have Flash so some pages will not load at all. The Mobile pages I have viewed on both devices are great and work well keeping the page to a minimum of graphics but letting you get the information you need. I wish I could find a mobile map but so far the ones I have found need you to download an app. to your cell phone, But that's not what I am using for my mobile web surfing. Ah well I keep looking, hey did you all see that Blogger has Mobile posting? cool.

Social Networking 2.5

Social Networking seems to be a good thing and sometimes a bad thing; I have lots of friends who are on Facebook and keep asking me to join. They tell me that all your old high school Friends are online. well I'm not really sure I want the class of 88 to find me, lol. I think I prefer blogs and that way if I want to share I can just tell someone my blog address. As for twitter, I think its a great idea to use for quick information updates but it seems to have so much unnecessary information. But I guess it really depends on who is reading it and what it means to them. I have also seen in the news people getting in trouble with social networking, with things like posting pictures of partying or saying negitive things about their jobs. I have also heard that some businesses check social networking sites when people apply for jobs to, so be mindful of what you post.

Internet Based 3D Virtual Worlds

I have seen Second Life used, but I have never got the chance to use it myself. I think the concept is a great idea. It gets users to explore the virtual environment and maybe learn new things on the way. I wish there was something like Second Life that could be used with less memory and graphics so everyone could access it.

Week 10 Phishing

I have a friend who has a paypal account. Not that long ago he got an e-mail from Paypal saying some one was trying to use his account and they needed him to update his information and password. I told him not to do that and send a copy of the e-mail to Paypal. They sent him a message back that it was a Phishing scam. It can happen to anyone. Be alert.

Week 9 Life Long Learning

I think it's great that university's are offering online courses. I think that would make it easier to schedule classes and also cut down on the space you need to have a class. Life Hacker and Instructables are two sites I already know about and use. I really like the neat stuff they show how to make. I also like Cnet Digital Home DIY. Another site a coworker old me about is www.snopes.com . It's great site to go find out if news/ rumors are true or not.

Week 8 On the Right Track

Reading this weeks lesson really made me think about Library 2.0 . I believe that our Library is on track with all the cool new things we have to offer and it's great that we can take this course and keep up to date.
